When writing an opinion essay, we present our personal opinion on a particular topic supported by reasons and/or examples. This type of essay is written in a formal style. We use formal linkers, impersonal tone and passive structures. We should avoid colloquial expressions, short forms and personal examples.
An opinion essay consists of:
- an introduction in which we introduce the topic and clearly state our opinion;
- a main body consisting of three paragraphs. In the first two paragraphs we present our viewpoints supported by reasons and examples. In the third paragraph we present the opposing viewpoint. We connect our points with appropriate linking words. We start each main body paragraph with a topic sentence;
- a conclusion in which we restate our opinion in different words.

If you are a typical teenager today, you use your MP3 player on the way to school, you text your friends all day and then surf the Net, send emails, instant messages or play on your games console in the evenings. In my opinion , teenagers are completely hooked on technology and I believe this has a positive effect on their lives.
To start with , using the gadgets and devices that are available because of new technology makes life more enjoyable. For example , MP3 players make travelling more entertaining. In addition , media devices such as mobile phones and laptops allow access to information and entertainment and make communication easier and faster.
Secondly , technology is a valuable resource that has allowed teens to learn new skills. For instance, many teenagers today are able to multi-task and do research using the Internet. Furthermore, they have learnt keyboard and computer skills that will help them at school and later in their working lives.
On the other hand , there are those who believe that technology has had a negative effect on today’s teenagers. They say that teens become distracted and waste their time with their gadgets instead of concentrating on more important things such as schoolwork. As a result , teens become antisocial as they prefer to communicate digitally instead of face-to-face.
In conclusion , teenagers’ use of gadgets and devices enriches their daily experiences in many ways. As technology advances, I think teenagers will be better prepared for the future.

The role of reading in our life is hard to overestimate. It becomes clear if you think about this problem carefully. Below are just a few examples showing that without reading our life would be simply impossible.
First of all, reading is one of the main ways of getting new information. If you want to learn something about physics, chemistry, biology or any other school subject, you open a textbook or a reference book and read it. If you feel like knowing the latest news, you get a newspaper or a magazine and read it too. In case you need to know what the weather is going to be like in the nearest future, you find a special site on the Internet and read a weather forecast. By the way, reading various Internet materials is no less important nowadays than reading paper books.
While reading the sources mentioned above gives you information about the real world, reading fiction gives you information about the imaginary one.
You read fiction in order to get pleasure rather than information. When reading a novel, a story or a poem you enjoy the author’s way of writing, his or her rich vocabulary and style. You reconstruct images and wonder at plot twists.
Let us move further. Have you ever noticed that those people who read a lot make fewer spelling mistakes when they write? Well, that is actually a scientific fact. When you read good literature, your brain memorizes how different words should be written correctly. Active readers often do not remember language rules as such, but still their spelling is close to perfect. What is more, your oral speech gets considerably better too because you learn new words and beautiful sentence structures.
One more reason to read much is that reading is an awesome helper in learning foreign languages. Yes, if you want to sound natural, you should see how native speakers use their language. One of the best ways to do so is to read and see language in action. If you come across a word or a grammar construction which you do not know, you can put that new information down in your notebook, reread the unclear fragment and analyze it on your own or with your teacher.
Finally, reading gives you unlimited opportunities to boost your mind. When you read, your memory improves, your attention becomes better and your imagination starts to develop very fast.
To sum up, reading is an essential part of our life. It is a way to obtain information, get a lot of pleasure, improve your literacy, widen your horizons and boost your personality in general.

Looking at our parents’ and our grandparents’ generations we can notice that our generation and the following ones are becoming less and less educated. Especially because of not sufficient reading.
I think that reading is very important and young people are losing a very entertaining part of their free time. None of the computer games and social webs can replace the joy of a quiet evening with an interesting fiction book in hands.
Against my personal opinion some people can say that reading is not popular nowadays because it’s old fashioned and soon will be forgotten forever. Also this group of people can say that fiction is a waste of time, because only non-fiction and scientific books can bring use.
But I’m sure that being a well educated person without reading literature is impossible, because books not only contain an interesting story, but much cultural information, moral and so on. Also many teachers notice, that children who doesn’t read make many mistakes in writing tasks and doesn’t use correctly words during the oral presentations.
In conclusion I have to say that from my point of view reading should be an irreplaceable part of life if you want to be a well educated person and to know your language and the culture of your country.

Нужно указать и ПРОБЛЕМУ, И РЕШЕНИЕ.
Although we see that teenagers are still reading books, there is a problem connected with this topic . I believe that the best solution to this problem would be advertising the importance of reading on the 1st channel. This could be done on the show “Pust’ Govoryat” with Andrey Malakhov. Many productivity experts and writers have long espoused the power of writing things down (in fact, paper is our many of our favorite to-do list manager and we’re a little fanatical about our favorite pens).
Why Writing Works
Patrick E. McLean’s defense of writing longhand is a poetic dissertation on the subject; words can rush out in their raw, feral state when the pen is your tool. Technology, meanwhile, can be too distracting and distancing.
Maybe you’re on the other side of the fence, though, and think all this just a lot of pure romanticism: People may feel more comfortable and productive with pen and paper because that’s what they’ve used most of their lives (and what we as a species have used for centuries), but some like typing more and can do it more quickly. Certainly, more of us are becoming fast typists by necessity and the art of handwriting is deteriorating.
A couple of studies, though, substantiate why the physical act of writing really does boost learning and goal achievement. Hoping to provide actual scientific proof on the efficacy of writing down and sharing goals (to make up for an often-quoted mythical Harvard/Yale study of goals), a psych professor at Dominican University of California found that people who wrote down their goals, shared them with others, and maintained accountability for their goals were 33% more likely to achieve them, versus those who just formulated goals. (One can argue that in this instance, typing would be equally effective; see “Why Writing Works Better Than Typing” below for why writing still may be better.) Another study found positive effects of writing on learning foreign words, and a survey of note-taking studies found several examples where taking notes helped students with recall and academic performance.
The research results may seem common sense or obvious to many of us. If you’re interested in the biology behind writing’s effect on our achievements, though, here’s a little background: Writing stimulates a bunch of cells at the base of the brain called the reticular activating system (RAS). The RAS acts as a filter for everything your brain needs to process, giving more importance to the stuff that you’re actively focusing on at the moment—something that the physical act of writing brings to the forefront. In Write It Down, Make It Happen, author Henriette Anne Klauser says that “Writing triggers the RAS, which in turn sends a signal to the cerebral cortex: ‘Wake up! Pay attention! Don’t miss this detail!’ Once you write down a goal, your brain will be working overtime to see you get it, and will alert you to the signs and signals that […] were there all along.”
Why Writing Works Better Than Typing
There may also be a scientific basis for the pen’s superiority over the keyboard when it comes to writing development and cognitive functions. Dr. Virginia Berniger, who studies reading and writing systems and their relationship to learning processes, found that children’s writing ability was consistently better (they wrote more, faster, and more complete sentences) when they used a pen rather than a keyboard; these are, of course, subjects without a penchant for using either tool. We also previously covered the WSJ article that connected handwriting and cognitive abilities; in one of the studies cited, adults learned new symbols and graphic shapes better when they reproduced them with pen-and-paper instead of typing them.
The difference, Berniger notes, may lie in the fact that with writing, you use your hand to form the letters (and connect them), thereby more actively engaging the brain in the process. Typing, on the other hand, involves just selecting letters by pressing identical-looking keys.
Of course, whether the pen or the keyboard is better for you depends on your personal experience and comfort with these tools. As a compromise, perhaps we should all get stylus-friendly tablet PCs or digital pens.

I think, nowadays it is very important to know foreign languages. Some people learn languages, because they need them for their work, others travel abroad, for the third it`s just a hobby. People want to know languages, to write to their pen-friends or to communicate with people from different countries, to meet more people and make new friends. Also, they want to read books of famous writers in original, to read newspapers and magazines. It helps them to know more about different events, people`s life, customs and traditions.
Learning foreign languages broadens our minds, people become educated. In my opinion, languages are especially important for those who work in different fields of science and technology, in politics. A foreign language helps to know the native language better. People, who know many languages are called polyglots. We know the names of some of them: German professor Shlimman, famous writer Shakespeare, philosopher Socrates and many others.
Nowadays, English has become an international language. Over 300 million people speak it as a mother tongue. As for me, I learn English from 7 years age. This language helps me very much, to speak free with people from all over the world, make new friends and participate in international contests.
I like one proverb of Johann Goethe:» He who does not know foreign languages does not know anything about his own.» I speak Ukranian, Russian, English, a little Italian and Spanish. And I`m very proud of it, because languages-it`s my second life. Also, I would like to learn Germany, French and Serbian, but this year I dedicate myself to learning Italian. The ability of speaking one or two or even more foreign languages helps people from different countries to develop mutual friendship and understanding. We can also make our intellectual and cultural horizons wider through contacts with people of another culture.
It is also very interesting to read foreign literature in its original form. We can also read foreign newspapers and magazines and understand films in foreign languages without any help and translation.

Learning A new language
Learning a new language is not easy. So when we want to learn the language, we should be confident and should not be shy. Therefore, we should practice language as much as we can. To learn language we should follow certain steps.
As matter as fact, students who wish to learn the language should follow certain steps. First, we should listen to the new language as much as possible. We have better listening to a native speaker that because we will learn pronunciation correctly. Also, we can use radio, audio programmes and watching T.V in listening language. Moreover, we should try ad much as possible listening to the language four hours everyday.
Second, to speak a new language we should be confident. For example, we should be confident and do not fear of our mistakes when we speak. Therefore, If we shy and do not want to make a mistake, we can not speak because we are afraid to make a mistake.
Third, read in the language as much as we can. For instance, read from general books which have topics we like it. Also, read from children’s books and read from magazines.
Fourth, to learn writing we should draw our planning and think of what we want to write about. In addition to that we can learn writing by writing our daily.
To conclude, we should practice these skills as much as we can. In addition to that if we have desire we can overcome the abstracts that we face when learning language.

I think that any educated person must learn foreign languages. But I prefer English to other foreign languages. Why? English is becoming a global language. English is so widespread that it has become the standard language for all kinds of international communication.
A lot of problems of the 21st century, such as the problems of war and peace, ecology, can not be solved without speaking the same language.
The English language is now the first language of about 350 million people, the native language of 12 nations and the official language of more than 33 nations. It means that one of seven people in the world speaks English.
Some people learn English because they need it in their work; others to travel aboard and for lots of people learning English is just a hobby.
I have been learning English since the age of 11. I like learning English very much. But I like and know well my native language, Russian. The great German poet Goethe once said: “He, who knows no foreign language, does not know his own one.” I agree with him. The knowledge of English helps me to learn Russian.
